PROFESSIONAL ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEMS

Control Who Can Enter — And Manage Access More Intelligently

Secure Tech designs professional access-control systems around the property, number of doors, number of users, management requirements and the way the organization operates.

We offer two primary approaches: cloud-based access control and locally managed on-site access control.

Each has advantages, and we help customers understand the differences before choosing an architecture.

CLOUD-BASED ACCESS CONTROL

Secure Tech works primarily with Alarm.com for cloud access control and also offers Brivo where appropriate.

Depending on the platform, advantages may include:

• Remote system management

• Centralized users and credentials

• Cloud-based database management

• Multi-location administration

• Manufacturer platform updates

• Reduced dependence on an on-site management computer/server

• Easier recovery after certain local hardware failures

• Mobile credentials

• Detailed event history

• Enterprise-level management capabilities

Cloud systems generally involve an ongoing service cost, but they can significantly reduce dependence on locally maintained management infrastructure.

LOCALLY MANAGED ACCESS CONTROL

Secure Tech installs professional locally managed systems including ZKTeco and Paxton.

These can provide:

• Cards and key fobs

• User management

• Door schedules

• Access permissions

• Event history

• Multiple-door management

• Local administrative control

• No recurring cloud subscription for core management

For a single property with straightforward requirements, local access control can be a practical and cost-effective solution.

CONSIDER THE LOCAL POINTS OF FAILURE

Traditional locally managed systems may depend on software, databases, computers or servers maintained at the property.

Computers and hard drives can fail, software can become outdated and databases can become corrupted.

Recovery can sometimes require considerable technical labor, and complete recovery may be difficult if the necessary database, configuration or usable backup no longer exists.

Cloud architecture reduces dependence on one locally maintained computer/database and can make recovery from certain failures considerably faster and more efficient.

Cloud does not mean nothing can fail.

ALARM.COM — ACCESS + ALARM + VIDEO

One of the strongest advantages of compatible Alarm.com systems is integration:

Access Control + Intrusion Alarm + Video Surveillance

Rather than operating as three completely independent systems, compatible technologies can work within the same broader security ecosystem.

Control Entry → Detect Intrusion → Verify Activity

MULTI-SITE & ENTERPRISE MANAGEMENT

Cloud access control can be especially valuable for organizations managing multiple properties.

Depending on the platform, authorized administrators can centrally manage locations across a city, statewide or nationwide through the same enterprise environment.

Traditional locally managed systems are generally centered around the individual property's management environment.

WHICH APPROACH IS RIGHT FOR YOUR BUSINESS?

Local access control may make sense when avoiding recurring service costs is a major priority and the customer is comfortable maintaining the local management environment.

Cloud access control may make more sense when remote management, easier recovery, ongoing platform maintenance, enterprise administration, multi-site management and security-system integration are important.

Cloud vs. On-Site Access Control
